Marco Rubio confirms April 13 for big announcement

Sen. Marco Rubio on Monday confirmed that he would hold a public event to announce his 2016 political plans on April 13 in Miami, but declined to specify if he would run for senate or president next year.

The Florida Republican, 43, is expected to seek the White House next year rather than running for re-election to the Senate. But during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Five,” Rubio would only say that he plans to reveal his decision in his hometown two weeks from now. Rubio also declined to confirm that his announcement would occur at Miami’s Freedom Tower, which has been reported by some media outlets.

Rubio encouraged viewers to go to his website to obtain more information and request tickets.

“I will announce on April 13 what I’m going to do next in terms of running for president or the U.S. Senate,” he said.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, announced his presidential candidacy one week ago at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., plans on launching his White House bid on April 7 in Louisville.
