Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker, D, won’t be able to live down his comments during a segment on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” where he expressed a difference of opinion with the Obama campaign its targeting of Bain Capital.
The Republican National Committee has seized on his remarks with an “I stand with Cory” petition drive, and the Romney campaign came out with a new ad Monday using his remarks to slam the Obama campaign’s class-warfare rhetoric.
The self-described “Obama surrogate” went off message saying that Bain Capital and other private-equity firms have done a lot to support business and that the campaign’s attacks were “nauseating.”

But by Sunday afternoon, the mayor had a change of heart, taking to YouTube to attack Mitt Romney’s record as a job creator, suggesting that the former Massachusetts governor and Bain Capital CEO “has not been completely honest with his role and his record … as a businessperson.”
This 180-degree reversal led some observers to speculate that someone from the Obama campaign had gotten to the mayor and prompted him to retract his comments.
