Kanye West thinks Beyonce should have won Grammy for best album

Kanye West just can’t help himself.

When Beck was called to the stage to accept his “Album of the Year” award at the Grammys Sunday night, Kanye approached the microphone and appeared to want to say something.

However, he changed his mind, turned around, and held his tongue — but not for long.

He told E! News after the show that he believed — as he did during the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 — that Beyonce should have won the Grammy for best album.

“I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists, to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain’t gonna play with them no more,” explained Kanye. “And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should’ve given his award to Beyonce.”

He wasn’t done yet.

“Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration,” he continued later. “And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyonce album and they feel like it takes them to another place.”

Kanye’s reason for deciding not to speak up on stage? He didn’t want to “put [his] daughter at risk.”

“I’m not gonna do nothing to put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity,” Kanye said. “That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight, but you all know what it meant when Ye walked out on that stage!”

Back in 2009, Kanye grabbed the microphone from Taylor Swift as she accepted the VMA award for best female video to declare that Beyonce’s video should have won.
