In every presidential election there are joke candidates and joke campaigns.
A perennial joke candidate Vermin Supreme — who has been running for president in New Hampshire since 1992 on a platform of mandatory tooth brushing, time travel research (in order to kill baby Hitler), free ponies for all Americans, and zombie preparedness — outperformed former RNC Chairman and former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore (R).
Supreme received 256 votes in the Democratic New Hampshire primary, coming in 4th place while Gilmore received just 133 votes according to CBS News.
Gilmore served as governor of Virginia from 1998 to 2002 before launching a failed Senate campaign in 2008 where he received just 33 percent against Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.).
While Gilmore was the only active campaign that received fewer votes than Supreme, he wasn’t the only one. Supreme defeated former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Penn.) and former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R), who dropped out of the race before voting started.
