At Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate held in South Carolina, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) tried to paint his main competition, Donald Trump, as a liberal northeast elitist — but it backfired spectacularly.

Cruz referred to Trump as having “New York vales” that were too liberal for Iowa and South Carolina.
The billionaire was able to attack back, claiming that New York was a wonderful place full of wonderful people, and New Yorkers showed their real values after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
Blowback against Cruz was swift, the New York Daily News released a picture of the Statute of Liberty on it’s cover giving the Texas senator the middle finger with the headline “Drop Dead, Ted. Hey Cruz: you don’t like N.Y. values? Go back to Canada.”

The hashtag #NewYorkValues quickly began trending and Twitter and Cruz received brutal attacks. Needless to say, the Texas senator might have hurt himself in some northeastern primary states.
Here in FL, the “sixth borough,” Cruz’s #NewYorkValues comment hurt him among Cons/Rs. And you’re not winning the general without Florida.
