President Obama to give Morehouse College commencement address

First President Obama was using

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Bible, and now he will be giving the commencement address at the alma mater of the civil rights advocate.

Obama will address the all-male Morehouse College graduates at their spring commencement on May 19, 55 years after MLK graduated from the historically black men’s college.

This announcement comes just a month after John Silvanus Wilson Jr. stepped on as Morehouse College President.

Since 2010, Wilson had been leading the White House Historically Black Colleges and Universities Initiative, a provision of Obama’s executive order that renewed the 30-year-old initiative. The Department of Education announced in September that it would allocate $228 million for grants for HBCUs, after already providing the 97 HBCUs with millions of dollars.

Obama generally gives the commencement address at a few college and universities every year.

Last year, he spoke at the the all-female Barnard College in New York.
