McCain: If Rand Paul and Ted Cruz ‘want to say that I’m too old, I agree’

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Friday that he agreed with perceived swipes from freshman Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who both railed against the party establishment as being too old in their speeches to CPAC on Thursday.

“I respect Sen. Paul. I respect Sen. Cruz. I respect those people. And I promise you I will have a respectful debate with them. And if they want to say that I’m too old – I agree,” McCain said during an appearance on the Kilmeade & Friends radio show.

Last week, McCain took to the Senate floor to criticize Paul’s 13 hour filibuster in protest of the Obama Administration’s drone policy, arguing that it amounted to little more than a “political stunt.”

“If Mr. Paul wants to be taken seriously he needs to do more than pull political stunts that fire up impressionable libertarian kids,” McCain said. “I don’t think what happened yesterday is helpful to the American people.”
