White House to host concert for Hollywood’s elite despite sequester budget cuts

It’s official: The White House is now Hollywood’s home away from home as President Obama will be rolling out the red carpet for a concert for Hollywood’s elite at the White House on April 16. The White House would like to remind everyone the sequester is still very “real,” but has miraculously saved the concert series amidst budget cuts.

Al Green, Ben Harper, Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake among others have RSVP’d for this star-studded event. And as for the rest of the 99 percent, take a number.

Meanwhile, White House tours are still canceled due to the sequester. It’s still too expensive to open up the “people’s house” to the people.

While these concerts are partially funded by private and corporate donations, most of the costs are covered by PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting … which receives $445.2 million from the public.

Not to mention the White House will have to foot the bill for security, which is the supposed reasoning behind canceling the White House tours in the first place.

This month’s concert at the White House is only the latest report of the Obama family opening up the “people’s house” to Hollywood A-listers. Tuesday, First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed Harrison Ford and others for a workshop at the White House in honor of the upcoming film “42.”

“This is your house, too,” she told the movie stars.

Soon, Hollywood will be forwarding all mail to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
