The Late Show host Stephen Colbert recapped the election results in New Hampshire on Wednesday.
Colbert opened his show by showing how Republican Donald Trump and Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) crushed their opponents by about 20 points each.
“(Trump and Sanders) turned our entire political system upsides down,” the late night host said. “Outsiders are now insiders, socialists are the establishment, these (pointing to an unflattering picture of Trump and Sanders) are now acceptable hairstyles.”
The late night host said he thinks that Valentines Day fever is sweeping across the country, and that’s why Americans are abandoning the safe candidate for a socialist and a reality star because “the heart wants what it wants.”
While mocking Hillary Clinton for sounding like a disappointed mom in her New Hampshire speech, Colbert also mocked GOP second place finisher John Kasich.
“The winningest loser of them all was Ohio Governor and your school’s second favorite shop teacher John Kasich and the establishment must be relieved because he has a sane, rational, message for the voters,” Colbert said as he played a clip of Kasich telling his supporters to buy a seatbelt.
“I’m on board with this but, where do you buy a seatbelt?”
“But last night the name on everyone’s lips was Bernie Sanders unless your Chris Hayes (who pronounced it Bernie Sandwiches),” Colbert continued. “Yes that’s right, a name everyone can get behind.”
Colbert then pulled out a dozen sandwiches and how they could be used to describe the socialist Vermont Senator.
