Senator Scott Brown loves “those Pussycat girls”

Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown apparently has quite the thing for the Pussycat Dolls.

In a 2006 video that has just now resurfaced thanks to liberal magazine Mother Jones, Brown, who was not yet a Senator at that time, is asked a candid and humorous question about who he would “stalk” if anyone by an unidentified supporter. His answer: the Pussycat Dolls.

The video was recorded in June of that year and shows a very blurry man in a t-shirt who Mother Jones has identified as Brown, a Republican who was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010, doing paperwork while sitting in a plastic chair outdoors. The videographer asks Brown, “Who else would you stalk?” apparently referring to a  comment Brown jokingly made before the clip about stalking someone. Brown responds with unintelligible mumbling before saying, “How about, uh, probably one or all of those Pussycat Girls?” The videographer corrects him, saying, “Oh there we go. The Pussycat Dolls.”

Mother Jones says it obtained the video from Wayne Laakko, co-owner of Double Deal Brand Records. According to the magazine, Laakko’s company managed the Senator’s daughter, 2006 American Idol semi-finalist Ayla Brown, until she suddenly left the company, claiming she was going to devote herself to a career as a CBS News correspondent. Instead, the Senator’s daughter kept pursuing her music career, backing out of a deal to do two more records with Double Deal.

Brown is currently fighting a tough reelection battle in a high profile race against Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren. Warren is not without her share of negative press, most notably over her controversial claims that she is a Native American.

While embarrassing, Brown’s tongue-in-cheek stalking comment pales in comparison to the scandal surrounding Warren’s Native American heritage. Benign as this video might be, however, Laakko has promised five more video releases in the near future. And it is doubtful he led with his biggest hit.
