Rand Paul teams up with MTV for MLK day

MTV might not seem like the most natural home for Kentucky Senator Rand Paul—but he took to the channel to share his thoughts on Martin Luther King, Jr. day.

In a short black and white video, part of MTV’s “The Talk” series, Paul reflects on a future united America: “I think peace will come when those of us who have enjoyed the American Dream become aware of those who are missing out on the dream,” he says. “The future of our country will be secure when we break down the wall that separates us from the other America. Let’s wish Martin Luther King a ‘Happy Birthday’ by uniting the two Americas into one America that includes justice for one and justice for all.”

“The Talk” features a number of celebrities, including Jordin Sparks, Penn Badgley, Kendrick Lamar, and Ashanti.  Two other congressmen–Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and Sen. Cory Booker, (D-N.J.)—also appear in videos.

Rand Paul has made numerous efforts to reach out to minorities recently, including partnering with Sen. Booker on sentencing reform.
