Charles Krauthammer took the words right out of our mouths last night in a Fox News appearance.
Krauthammer, a syndicated columnist and a Fox News contributor, called the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Obama’s recess appointments a “stinging rebuke” to the president.
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday that President Obama overstepped his constitutional authority to make government appointments while the Senate was in recess, stating the Senate was actually in session when the president put members on the National Labor Relations Board in 2012.
The decision is definitely a setback for the Obama administration, which said the appointments were necessary to overcome congressional gridlock.
“I think it goes beyond the issue of recess appointment and beyond the effect on labor relations and the balance between labor and business,” Krauthammer said on “Special Report with Bret Baier”. “I think this is a stinging rebuke to Obama overreach in general.”
Krauthammer went on to say that the ruling could work in House Speaker John Boehner’s favor, as it helps validate his potential lawsuit against Obama. Boehner is planning to file a lawsuit against Obama over the president’s frequent use of executive power.
“Remember the argument Democrats have made up till now with the Boehner lawsuit that is going to challenge overreach and others,” he said. “(They have said) this is simply a partisan attack on the president, but the court is saying this is a constitutional travesty what happened in this case.”
