Lawrence O’Donnell turns down CPAC invite because of scheduling conflict

Despite its best efforts, the American Conservative Union might not have anyone from MSNBC at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference, as Lawrence O’Donnell was forced to decline his invitation due to a scheduling conflict.

The host of ‘The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnellannounced on his show Wednesday night that he would not be able to attend CPAC 2013, despite his desire to do so.

“My schedule is not as flexible as the unemployed Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, so I had to send my regrets,” he said.

O’Donnell did express surprise at receiving an invitation to the conference.

“I’m not kidding,” he said. “This is absolutely serious.”

The MSNBC host was invited to debate conservative pundit Ann Coulter, something he has done before and said he would gladly do again — for a good cause. The last he debated Coulter, the event raised money for charity, O’Donnell said.

“So, as I told them, maybe next year,” O’Donnell said. “If it can work out on the schedule, I will happily go and do that.”

As Mediaite reported, O’Donnell had recently been very critical of the CPAC speaker selections, especially Romney, calling him “such a loser.”
