Obama gay marriage stance could hurt him among swing voters

A Gallup poll released Friday shows that Obama’s support for gay marriage could cost him among independents in the likelihood of a tight election.

This could especially  be true in swing states like North Carolina, Florida or Ohio where the vote could be tight.

Approximately, 23 percent of independents and 10 percent of Democrats suggest they are now less likely to vote for the president. And that combined with the fact Obama stands to lose more votes from these voters than he would compensate for by luring Republicans or other independents could harm his re-election.

Gallup notes that this new public stance is “more or a net minus than a net plus for him.”
