Conservative fans of Jennifer Lawrence ought to beware. The young, popular Oscar winner has claimed it would be “the end of the world” if Donald Trump were elected president and ranted against Republicans after also mentioning that Kim Davis made her “embarrassed” to be from Kentucky. Now, she’s defending Planned Parenthood.
The actress’ interview with Glamour for their February 2016 cover was trending on Facebook. The piece is lauded as “Jennifer Lawrence Gives the No-Filter, No-B.S. Interview of Your Dreams.” It’s more of her typical style.

Lawrence goes from talking about Amy Schumer and Trainwreck to Lawrence and Schumer reacting to the Colorado shooting at Planned Parenthood in the same paragraph. Being the pro-Planned Parenthood magazine that they are, Glamour was happy to go along with it, and even mentioned the defense in their intro, as well as wrote a whole separate piece about it. But, as Lawrence sees it:
In addition to being a mouth piece for Planned Parenthood then, Lawrence also stereotypes and denigrates “growing up in a Jesus house.” Regardless if one’s parents are religious are not, many teenagers who are actually having sex get their own birth control, and Planned Parenthood is certainly not the only place to get it.
Glamour confirmed that Lawrence did indeed “go to Planned Parenthood for those things,” to which Lawrence answered “yes, I did.” There’s also a note that she “gestures widely” as she points out that “I am a successful woman who has not had a pregnancy.”
As Glamour congratulates Lawrence, she laughs but goes into her “but seriously,” as she questions “what harm comes from supplying people with birth control, condoms, Pap smears, and cancer screenings?”
Lawrence’s typical pro-Planned Parenthood talking point is tiring but no less dangerous. For one thing, Planned Parenthood is hardly the only source where men and women can receive such services. But more so, many Americans take issue with Planned Parenthood, a tax-payer funded organization, being the nation’s largest provider of abortions.
Congratulations to Lawrence, indeed. But, many women have not become pregnant thanks to reasons beyond Planned Parenthood. Perhaps even more important is how many women have been both pregnant and successful, and deserve such credit for it.
