For months, liberals have been touting a republican War on Women. They have huffed and puffed, but nothing has come of it, because there is nothing to see. Republicans do not have a War on Women. If the Left is interested in finding the actual War on Women, however, it has been located.
There have been two instances just this week of the left-wing War on Women.
First, South Carolina’s AFL-CIO President Donna Dewitt was caught on video bashing a piñata of Republican South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.
The video was taken at an AFL-CIO retreat last weekend and people can be heard in the background encouraging the union boss to “Giver her another whack! Whack her again!” “Hit her again!” and, my personal favorite, “Wait ‘till her face comes around and whack her!”
Once the video was leaked, one might think that Dewitt would at least pretend to regret her actions. Clearly, she doesn’t understand the situation at all.
As she told ABC News, “They made it and I would have played the game with them no matter it would have been pin the tail on the donkey with Nikki Haley’s face on it…There was no ill intent. We were certainly have (sic) a good time, I’m not mad or angry.”
By her logic, because she was having fun pretending to physically abuse a woman, that makes it OK. As she told the National Review “I don’t regret it.”
How about the national AFL-CIO? Certainly, they must be better at messaging, going into spin-control overdrive. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Instead, Alison Omens, director of media outreach at AFL-CIO, e-mailed a statement saying, in part “While it was meant as fun, there is absolutely no place for that kind of joke in a conversation that is extremely serious about how to rebuild our middle lass and our country.”
No, Ms. Omens, there is no place for that kind of joke in an organization ever.
Of course, the media has the union’s back. Yahoo, for example, has a story with the headline “Nikki Haley Tries to Capitalize Off Video of Union Leader Smashing Pinata.” You mean capitalizing like Planned Parenthood and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee did? Ah, the sweet double standards of the media.
Actual violence against women was apparently not enough to get the War on Women crowd upset, but how about treating a woman as a sex object, creating and spreading explicit images? We found out this morning that that’s ok, too.
Hustler Magazine featured conservative commentator S.E. Cupp as a “Celebrity Fantasy,” with an image (which they admit is not real) they doctored to make it look as though she’s engaged in a sex act. What is the backlash of this egregious disrespect for a woman? Apparently, nothing.
An online search shows that conservative sites are talking about this almost exclusively. Online publications such as Mediaite sort of covered the story, but made it more about S.E. Cupp, saying that she isn’t really a celebrity and was misrepresented as being on Fox News more often than she is.
Hustler isn’t really known for their journalistic integrity, are they? Is that really the point, here?
How about the National Organization of Women? Not a word on either of these actual stories, but they’re still going after Rush Limbaugh on their homepage.
What does Obama have to say? The Left tells us that Obama cares deeply about women. He called Sandra Fluke when Rush Limbaugh called her a rude name on the radio because of his daughters Sasha and Malia. He said “I want them to be able to speak their mind in a civil and thoughtful way, and I don’t want them attacked or called horrible names because they’re being good citizens.” He even said that this applied to issues on which he might not agree with them.
As far as we know, Obama has yet to apologize to either woman, so are we to understand that he would feel comfortable with his daughters being treated the way Haley or Cupp were?
Yes, the War on Women has been located, right in the backyard of the left-wing, where they will probably bury it while still searching on our side of the fence.
