Wikileaks founder Julian Assange may be best known for his work behind the computer, but now he will be taking center stage in a most unlikely place.
Assange will strut his stuff on the runway in a Ben Westwood show for London Fashion Week in September, according to The Daily Mail.
The catwalk is even coming to him at the Ecuadorian Embassy where he has been granted asylum. Sexual assault charges in Sweden against Assange were supposed to lead to his extradition.
Assange, a controversial figure, will be joined in the show by six models to show off outfits designed by Westwood. The clothes have been inspired by actor Clint Eastwood’s costume in his spaghetti western films, and the show will be accompanied by music from The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, according to The Daily Mail.
“I want to highlight Julian Assange’s plight. What happened to him is totally unfair,” Westwood told the news outlet. “Julian’s been in the embassy for two years and it’s important that he doesn’t slip into obscurity.”
This is not the first time a member of the Westwood fashion family has used its runway shows to show their support for Assange.
Dame Vivienne Westwood crafted an “I’m Julian Assange” t-shirt to close her fashion show in London two years ago. The t-shirt was reportedly said to demonstrate her support for the man behind exposing some of the government’s biggest secrets online.
