American taxpayer dollars used to throw Independence Day bash in Canada

Happy Fourth of July, Eh?

American taxpayer dollars are being used to throw a $125,000 Independence Day celebration in Canada on Friday, The Hill reports.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) spoke out against the State Department’s decision to throw a costly Fourth of July party Thursday.

“Taxpayers ought to be free and independent of wasteful and unnecessary federal spending; that truth is self-evident,” Flake said.

He called it an “egregious waste of taxpayer dollars.”

Bruce Heyman, the U.S. ambassador to Canada,  and his wife are hosting the party, which will feature live music by The Digs and “delicious summer treats,” a news release stated.
