Most Valuable Player

Adam Dunn capped off a thrilling eighth-inning rally with a two-run HR to left. Washington entered the inning trailing Florida, 4-0. By the end they were up, 6-4, thanks to Dunn, who smashed his 28th HR of the year.

All-Star Performance

Marlins RHP Josh Johnson is quietly putting together a Cy Young season. But a brilliant performance was marred by a late collapse. After seven innings of two-hit ball, Johnson gave up four runs in the eighth and left with a no-decision.

Overlooked

For the second game in a row the Nats received some nice work from a middle reliever. Monday it was three scoreless innings from Tyler Clippard. Tuesday it was Jason Bergmann, who held Florida to one run over 2 1/3 innings.

Oops!

The Nats have been better defensively of late. Not Tuesday night, though. Elijah Dukes couldn’t cut off a hit by Chris Coghlan in the first inning and turned it into a triple. Adam Dunn then whiffed on a Nick Johnson grounder.

From the Dugout

Jim Riggleman decided to be cautious with Ryan Zimmerman, who was hit by a pitch in his left shoulder during Monday’s win at Pittsburgh. Willie Harris started instead.

Fredi Gonzalez employed former National Nick Johnson in a familiar spot — No. 2 in the batting order. Johnson was 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
