The New York Knicks have lost their power forward and a point guard and fired their coach. Yet they have Carmelo Anthony, and that could be all they need to make the playoffs. It’s time Anthony delivered. Thus far his time in New York has not gone as expected. Other great players, such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, help in many more ways than Anthony. But maybe the more pressure there is on Anthony, the better. With Chicago, Milwaukee, Miami and Boston on the schedule in the next eight days, there will be plenty of pressure.

And Anthony is starting to get on a roll with his scoring. He had a seven-game stretch in which he averaged just 14.0 points a game (but the Knicks won six of them). But he followed that with a seven-game stretch in which he has averaged 29.9 points — with 43 in an overtime win vs. Chicago on Sunday.
Anthony’s supporting cast is nothing special. If the Knicks want to go anywhere, Anthony needs to be the opposite. Lately, he has been.
