JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — About 450 of the country’s best gymnasts will compete in Jackson in 2014 Junior Olympic Nationals.

Marika Cackett, spokeswoman for the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the competition will be the first national Olympic-qualifying event held in Mississippi.
The May 2014 competition will feature former U.S. Olympians and Olympic hopefuls for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The gymnasts will compete to become Junior Olympic national champions in all-around and in four separate events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
The top four all-around athletes in each age division will qualify to the 2014 Junior Olympic National Team and will be invited to attend a National Training Camp.
The Junior Olympic Nationals is a part of USA Gymnastics, the sport’s governing body.
