A sampling of player reaction, both to Vinny Cerrato’s resignation and Bruce Allen’s hiring:
Rock Cartwright on Cerrato: “I hope I don’t see him down the road.”
Carlos Rogers — a big ear-to-ear smile. Beats anything he said.
London Fletcher: “Obviously when we heard about Vinny’s resignation, there was uncertainty about what was going to happen. Bruce Allen has a plan in place. He knows how to build a winner. I feel it’s a good step in the right direction for us as an organization, for us as a team. I’m anxious to see how things unfold.”
More Fletcher: “There’s not going to be any coaching decisions that will happen between now and the end of the season. So for us to be speculating, worrying about it does us no good as players.”
Casey Rabach: “Shocked in that it happened? No. Shocked that it happened now? i don’t know. You look at it like Bruce will get a chance in three weeks to see what he has for a football team. I understand it in that way. … It’s part of the business. Everyone realizes we’re on a three-week job interview type deal. It is what it is. Change has been made already and there will be more changes, I’m sure.”
Santana Moss: “All the distractions we done have, this ain’t nothing. All we’re trying to do is keep what we’ve got going as far as how we’re playing and keep it going. Other than that, this is far from a distraction. You know there will be change regardless. We knew that a long time ago. Regardless of what’s happening now or what will happen later, something will be done regardless. We already knew that.”
More Moss: “I felt Vinny was a pretty good guy and he did his job well. I talked to him a lot here and there so I knew what he wanted. I knew what his focus was. He wanted to win and he wanted to bring the right guys in to help us win. Other than I have no problems with a guy trying to help us. As far as everyone else having their problems with him, then that’s them.”
Antwaan Randle El: “You’ll mess yourself up trying to focus and think about the future. You begin to worry and that’s when you become stressful.”
Jerry Gray: “As a coach what you do is, you know there’s change in everything you do. There’s change in the game; you’ve got to make adjsutments. Same thing in life. You have to make adjustments. You can’t sit around and worry about it, you have to go out and do what you do best and that’s coach football.”
