The NFL paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday by holding a moment of silence before the first football game of the season.
The late monarch, who died on Thursday at the age of 96, was honored during pregame festivities at SoFi Stadium before the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills kicked off the 2022 season.

“Today, the world lost a beloved global figure with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II,” the stadium’s public address announcer told the crowd, before asking the spectators in attendance to join in a moment of silence in honor of the queen, “whose message of unity and peace inspired people throughout the world for generations.”
Video recorded from inside the stadium, however, appeared to show that the tribute did not quite go off as expected, with seemingly thousands of people chattering throughout the moment of silence, and a few booing.
