Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau had a message for his team — and a subtle one for the officials. The Capitals committed eight penalties — including John Carlson‘s needless one late in the game that led to a four-on-four and the Rangers’ game-winning goal Sunday.
“There was no reason Carlson should have gotten involved with [Brian] Boyle,” Boudreau said. “After the fourth punch to the head and the third warning, he punched back, and then they both went.”

The Capitals must learn how to deal with the Rangers’ attitude, but Boudreau let it be known others must do their job.
“You knew they were going to be antagonistic,” Boudreau said. “We just got to learn how to take it. This is the time of year you don’t take it. Every time after there was something in front of the net and a scrum they were hitting our goalie. [The referees] kept warning them not to do it and not to do it. They kept doing it, and nothing was done so they kept doing it. Pretty simple.”
