Favre is entering uncharted territory

Brett Favre‘s return to the NFL sparked all kinds of entertainment on Twitter on Tuesday, including the trending of “Farve” and this priceless tweet by Darrell Green: “I’ll hit ya’ll up after I eat lunch. I’ve got to eat a good meal & get my nourishment because I’m coming back to the Redskins at 50.”

But Favre’s second comeback also landed him among inauspicious company.

Michael Jordan

The first comeback after the failed baseball stint was oh so sweet, beginning with a press release that said “I’m back” and ending with three more NBA titles. The second — with the Wizards — was pretty much the opposite, ending with Jordan’s taillights between his legs as he drove out of town.

Roger Clemens

Even if his reputation was eventually tarnished by accusations of steroid use, Clemens’ first un-retirement in Houston was a resounding success, with an NL Cy Young award in 2004 and a 1.87 ERA in 2005. But the second go-around in New York was atrocious. Clemens’ 6-6 record meant the Yankees paid about $3.1 million per victory. His final start (in the 2007 playoffs) lasted less than three innings.
