It’s easy to understand Howard’s end

The fight would have confounded Redskins fans. They might not have known who to root for: Desmond Howard, a bust as a receiver, or Phil Simms, the ex-Giants quarterback.

Fortunately, we think, the fight never occurred. But it was close. Apparently at the NFL Experience event at the Super Bowl, Simms confronted Howard about something he had said in the fall. Before the LSU-Tennessee game, Howard said it would feature “three of the worst QBs in the SEC.” Um, Simms’ kid, Matt, plays for the Volunteers.

It’s too bad Simms doesn’t work in a profession that requires him to make certain proclamations about a player’s talent. Maybe then he would understand.

Howard later tweeted that Simms threatened to hit him. Police were needed to break up their heated argument. But Simms later told WFAN, “At no time did I think we might actually fight.”

Well, there’s always next year. Matt Simms is only a junior.
