D.C. faces Rochester in U.S. Open Cup semifinal

Simms facing possible surgery » Midfielder Clyde Simms will fly to Munich, Germany, on Wednesday to consult with Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, a sports hernia specialist who has operated on multiple D.C. United players. Simms, who was forced to leave last weekend game against Colorado early due to a lingering adductor problem, could have surgery as early as Friday.
“Honestly, I just want peace of mind,” said Simms. “If that is what it takes, then I will be happy about it.”
Szetela waiting game » Newly-acquired midfielder Danny Szetela will be available for Tuesday’s match if D.C. United receives his international clearance from Italy, home of Szetela’s last club, Brescia.
“[Brescia] want to make it happen,” said United general manager Dave Kasper. “But they need the official request to come from the Italian federation.”
United makes offer for Habarugira » Kasper said he is optimistic about the signing of defender David Habarugira, who was on trial last week. The team is negotiating with Habarugira’s agent. The 20-year-old hails from Burundi and came up through Anderlecht in Belgium.
