Francona: Buck should stop here

Maybe Orioles manager Buck Showalter was just being honest. But to those he was talking about, he was more than a little annoying.

In a Men’s Journal article, Showalter ripped Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein (“I’d like to see how smart Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay payroll”) and commented on New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and his penchant for jumping back from balls off the plate (“I know how many calls that team gets — and yes, he [ticks] me off.”)

Epstein didn’t shoot back, but his manager did:

“I was aggravated a little bit,” Terry Francona told the Boston Globe. “It’s not the end of the world, but he shouldn’t have done it. I just thought that was a little bit out of line.”

And then Jeter — with sarcasm:

“I’ve never heard someone make a big deal out of how someone takes inside pitches,” Jeter told ESPN. “So after I figure out this stride thing [in my swing], I’ll work on how I take pitches.”
