Anthony Kim is good for golf. Just watch what he does on the course, slapping hands as he walks from green to tee, pointing to fans, showing exuberance. Golf needs that, especially as a contrast to the steely-eyed Tiger Woods.
Then again, the steely-eyed Tiger Woods never blinked as he pursued the AT&T championship. And that’s what Kim, only 24 and nine years younger than Woods, needs to learn.

Coming down the stretch, Woods showed Kim the approach that must be taken. Woods’ focus never strays. It’s why his shots obeyed him down the stretch and Kim’s did not.
Kim looked defeated coming around the turn, having blown a wedge on No. 5 and a tee shot on the sixth. He lost his swagger and it showed. He did show an ability to recover and he did manage to stay friendly with the crowd.
If Kim learns from his first pairing with Woods, he’ll become one of the most popular golfers on tour. And not just because he’s friendly with the crowds.
