“My brother Mark got the brains, I got the looks,” said an easygoing Scott McClellan at Politics & Prose on Tuesday night for a reading from his book, “What Happened.” Perhaps the former White House press secretary was chalking up his sex appeal to his newly grown sideburns … just in time for the book tour!
Naturally, McClellan discussed his time in the White House, confessing that he “probably was somewhat naive” when he first started there. One of his biggest challenges? Handling the White House press corps when Vice President Dick Cheney shot Harry Whittington during a Texas hunting trip.

“Cheney is a person who would prefer you say no comment,” McClellan said, “especially with the hunting accident.” As he fought an eye roll, McClellan conceded “that was a tough situation for me.”
Of course, it was an even tougher situation for Whittington, who ended up with almost 200 birdshot pellets lodged in his body.
