Where does a governor go? Anywhere

If Florida governor Charlie Crist wants to become vice president, as is widely rumored, he better hope that people become more familiar with his face.

In yet more post-White House Correspondents’ Association weekend fallout, we hear that as the governor excessively worked the ballroom floor throughout Saturday evening, he eventually made his way up front near the dais, where the president, vice president, first lady and myriad other VIPs were seated. Crist waved at a seated first lady Laura Bush, who returned the favor. “Hey Charlie!” she said.

Taking that as a cue to, well, come on up, Crist decided to unhinge the velvet rope separating the crowd from the head table, so he might get a bit more face time with Laura.

That didn’t sit so well with security. Clearly not recognizing the first-term governor, three security guards descended on Crist and sternly asked him just what on Earth he thought he was doing. After a bit of explaining, Crist convinced the guards to let him have his face time with Laura.

But no word on whether he got her endorsement.
