So much for the endearing soundtrack of soccer in South Africa.
By banning vuvuzelas from European Championship games and Champions League matches, UEFA is admitting what many folks outside the African continent have been afraid to say all along: The darn things are beyond annoying.

Saying in a statement that the use of vuvuzelas would not be appropriate in Europe — where singing and chanting offer a far different soundtrack — UEFA added, “The vuvuzelas would completely change the atmosphere, drowning supporter emotions and detracting from the experience of the game.”
That’s more truthful than FIBA, which banned the horns from the world championships in Turkey, citing medical advice. The Little League World Series and English Premier League also instituted bans.
Good for UEFA. If only soccer were as responsive to diving and poor officiating — the effects of which are far worse than listening to a droning beehive for 90 minutes.
