End of 1st: Redskins 7, Raiders 3
1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr
» So the Redskins used LaRon Landry up near the line of scrimmage on the first series more than usual. Reed Doughty went to free safety on second down. Much will be made of this, but they have lined up in these formations in the past, with Doughty deep and Landry up near the line. But if it’s for an extended time then that represents a change.
» The Redskins used Phillip Daniels at right end on second down. They’ll flip him to that side on occasion depending on the matchups. Brian Orakpo was in on the first three plays as well, unlike last week.
» Hard to know how a linebacker could be left unaccounted for on the sack of Jason Campbell. But he was.
» Landry is continuing to come up in run support on the second series as well. There’s no doubt this is where he’s best used. And if they play Reed Doughty deep, they can stop this passing game. The Raiders have speed, but they don’t exactly do a lot of damage downfield.
» Landry has been up near the line almost every snap. But most of the time they’ve run away from the side where Landry is walking up.
» They showed a good graphic on TV with the corners not getting fooled by double moves. That’s no surprise. While they have struggled against this move it’s not as if they fail every time. But it’s still a weakness.
» Brian Orakpo went through two blockers on his sack; Zach Miller had a terrible effort against him and then Orakpo beat the back. He’s a stud.
» The Raiders’ coverage has shut down the Redskins’ passing game. Jason Campbell has time in the pocket, but isn’t finding anyone open.
» Not to make this all about Landry, but he’s been a pivotal person thus far. On the 48-yard catch he actually tried to force Darren McFadden to the outside. He failed and McFadden caught a slant and turned it into a long gain. He gained another 17 yards or so after Landry first tried to grab him.
» Washington has used Landry when the tight ends are split wide as well.
» The D is putting good pressure on Bruce Gradkowski, with blitzes and four-man rushes.
» Great drive, led by Jason Campbell. His ability to make plays with his arm and leg helped, but it was Quinton Ganther who had the big play, breaking two tackles on his long catch and run. He makes defenders miss.
» With the Raiders playing man coverage, this should enable Campbell to run even more. Very tough to handle a running QB when playing so much man.
» Um, Landry can’t cover up near the line of scrimmage, either. Good strategy by the Raiders.
