New Maryland basketball coach Mark Turgeon lassoed his first recruit over the weekend: Seth Allen, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Fredericksburg Christian who will arrive in the fall of 2012. Who are some other local players Turgeon should target?

5. Beejay Anya (DeMatha/2013) » The 6-7, 265-pound sophomore has progressed rapidly as he has taken steps to reshape his body and develop a low-post game. Rated No. 68 in his class (ESPN). A product of Keith Stevens’ Team Takeover AAU program.

4. Nate Britt (Gonzaga/2013) » The smooth, 6-1 Britt already has drawn an offer from Pittsburgh. Plays for D.C. Assault. One of several stellar point guard prospects in the area, a list that includes James Robinson (DeMatha/2012).

3. Arnaud Moto (Episcopal/2012) » The 6-6, 215-pound junior can defend and score inside and out. Plays for Team Takeover and is rated No. 60 in his class (ESPN). From Cameroon, so he’s not as tied to this area.

2. Aquille Carr (Patterson/2013) » Explosive 5-6 sophomore is more than a sideshow act. Top-rated player in Maryland in his class. Was so impressive at a junior international tournament in Italy that a pro team offered him $750,000 to make like Brandon Jennings.

1. Nick Faust (Baltimore City/2011) » Signed with Maryland but requested his release when Gary Williams retired. The 6-6 guard can play and defend at three positions. Rated No. 36 in his class (ESPN). Turgeon can go a long way toward keeping Faust if he retains assistant Bino Ranson.
