Wouldn’t it be nice if the case of Prince George’s County native Mike Balogun was settled sensibly by the NCAA?
At least one step was taken in that direction on Monday, when the case appeared to be pulled out of court. But it’s certainly not back to even yet for a story that hardly has the makings of a faked SAT test.

The eligibility of Balogun, a 25-year-old senior linebacker at Oklahoma, was called into question by Florida State, of all schools, earlier this month, leading the NCAA to decertify him and look into his semi-pro career, which he embarked on after high school and for which he’s claimed to have paid all of his expenses.
Regardless of whether he played after the age of 21, Balogun spent two years balancing semi-pro ball, a construction job, and a family before enrolling in junior college, and eventually landing with the Sooners.
It’s not exactly sending a stand-in test-taker to Detroit, and it shouldn’t cost Oklahoma one of its best players.
