Redskins tight end Chris Cooley underwent surgery on his left knee Monday, and four teammates will need surgeries later this week.
Defensive end Kedric Golston (hernia) and free safety Kareem Moore (right knee) will have surgery Tuesday, center Casey Rabach (right shoulder) will have his Thursday and safety LaRon Landry (right shoulder) will have work done later in the week.
A different approach?
Kicker Graham Gano knows he must improve his field goal accuracy after tying for the league lead with 11 misses, including a 30-yarder in Sunday’s 17-14 loss to the New York Giants.
Coach Mike Shanahan said Sunday night he thought Gano’s problems were mental. But Gano said he’s going to work on a two-step approach for more accuracy rather than a three-step approach for more length.
“I’ve never had a problem mentally,” Gano said. “I’m very mentally strong. It’s more technique. I can put the ball through from 60 yards, but it’s accuracy. I have to work on my mechanics. It’s fired me up having the season I’ve had. I’m looking forward to getting better.”
The Redskins likely will be active seeking other options.
On second thought …
Shanahan said he regretted how he handled Donovan McNabb’s benching late in the Oct. 31 game at Detroit. Shanahan initially said injuries were impacting McNabb’s play.
“I should have been a little more honest than I was,” Shanahan said. “Sometimes you do things to protect players and at the same time you’re actually hurting them. I wish I would have handled it differently.”
Schedule complete
The Redskins hold the 10th overall pick in the NFL Draft in April. It’s the fourth time in the past eight years that Washington will pick 10th or higher.
Meanwhile, their 2011 schedule is complete. At home they’ll play: Arizona, Dallas, Minnesota, New England, the New York Jets, New York Giants, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
They will travel to Buffalo, Carolina, Dallas, Miami, New York Giants, Philadelphia, Seattle and St. Louis.
The times and dates of the games will be released in April.
