The Capitals made final roster cuts Monday, sending rookie defenseman Karl Alzner to AHL Hershey along with forward Chris Bourque. Forward Quintin Laing was placed on waivers and will also be assigned to Hershey if he clears today. Alzner, 20, played well during training camp, but is set to make $1.675 million. The Caps, who begin the season Friday with 22 of 23 roster spots filled, save money under the salary cap with Alzner in the minors.
