One of the names of past Legg Mason winners on an awning that rings the William H.G. FitzGerld Tennis Center is that of 1992 champion Petr Korda. With his scrawny frame, angular facial features, and signature scissors kick to punctuate victories, Korda’s appearance was unforgettably bird-like.
Thursday on the Golf Channel, Korda appeared in a different sport, serving as caddie for his daughter, Jessica, in the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis. Jessica Korda, 16, advanced to today’s quarterfinals with a victory, 2 and 1, over Tiffany Lee of Rowland Heights, Calif.

Her success in match play is no fluke. In a field of 156, Korda tied for second in two rounds of stroke play, shooting a (72-67 – 139) to finish a shot behind medalist Danielle Kang of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Jessica Korda, a junior this fall at Bradenton Prep (Fla.), is one of the nation’s top junior players. She won the McDonald’s Betsy Rawls Championship last summer. Last month, she made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open.
Petr Korda isn’t the only former Czech tennis star with a daughter who has turned to golf. Ivan Lendl, also a former Legg Mason champion, has three teenage daughters who play competitively. This includes Isabella, 17, and Daniela, 16, who joined Korda at the U.S. Junior Girls Amateur three weeks ago.
