Maher drawing protest for pope comments

Comic and talk-show host Bill Maher is no stranger to controversy. He was sacked from his ABC show for comments he made in the wake of 9/11, and he hasn’t toned down his act on HBO.

So it’s no surprise that when his fans arrive for his gig at DAR Constitution Hall tonight, they’ll be greeted by a phalanx of protesters outside the entrance.

The American Life League is organizing the demonstration in reaction to Maher’s comments that Pope Benedict XVI is a “former Nazi” and the Catholic Church is a “pedophile cult,” and his generally insulting attitude toward Christians.

ALL spokesman Michael Hichborn said he expected more than 100 people to participate. The group is going to “call for his firing, especially after the firing of Don Imus went so easily, and for so little,” he said.
