Sopranos always love New Jersey senators

When actress Caitlin Van Zandt (above) received flowers in her hotel room at the J.W. Marriott on Tuesday, she instantly thought, “They’re from Frank! He found me!”

The “Sopranos” and “Guiding Light” actress was talking about Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., whom she recently met on the train down to D.C.

Lautenberg asked if he could sit down next to her, prompting Van Zandt to ask, “Are you here for the table or the company?”

“A little bit of both,” Lautenberg said.

“That is definitely going on my MySpace page!” an excited Van Zandt told Yeas & Nays. “It’s like going to England and meeting the Beatles. I bet you could throw a rock and hit a senator around here.”

OK, settle down, everybody. …

Van Zandt had never been to the Smithsonian Mall where she hosted the “Walk From Obesity,” coordinated by the Obesity Action Coalition and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Before the walk she conceded to us that “all I know about the Mall is from ‘Forrest Gump.’ ”

Even though Van Zandt is pulling for Barack Obama this year, she does support one thing about McCain: “I want to watch McCain belly dance.” Why? “Because I think he’d be awful!”
