Bashful and Beatles

Is Bristol Palin on the mind of Gov. Mike Huckabee?

Who knows, but more than a few heads were scratched Wednesday when Huckabee strapped on the bass guitar at a Center for American Progress event and started playing the Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There.”

You know, the one with these lyrics?

Well she was just seventeen /
You know what I mean /
And the way she looked /
Was way beyond compare…

See, seveteen year old girls have been all over the news lately, ever since we learned of 17-year-old Bristol Palin‘s pregnancy.

Huckabee didn’t look the slightest bit bashful about playing the song, and hardly anyone in the room batted an eye at the fact that — wait a second — is this a rock concert taking place at a think tank?!?

“We’re not your grandma’s think tank!” said CAP President John Podesta.

On vocals and lead guitar for the Beatles song was Rep. Joe Crowley,  who noted the looming Sept. 11 anniversary and said, “War and music really don’t go together…You never hear anyone go to war over music.” Then, joking, “Well, except for the ‘Battle of the Bands.”

The two were at CAP to support the Music National Service Initiative, which aims to address civic and social needs through music.

“Some of us think that Republicans rock, too,” said Huckabee.
