Ready to make same mistake?

They likely will rid themselves of one player who built a reputation for not wanting to practice, not maximizing his talent and struggling to stay healthy. Albert Haynesworth is talented, but the Redskins could decide he’s not so talented that they have to put up with his antics.

Which makes sense. And likewise, it doesn’t make sense that a guy they might replace him with had the same reputation in another city.

The Redskins visited with free agent defensive lineman Shaun Rogers on Friday. Since he had just been cut by Cleveland, he’s free to sign with another team (one league source said as many as 10 are interested). He won’t complain about playing in a 3-4, but he also would come with baggage. That’s why he’s available.

According to media reports, Rogers missed practice often last year, yet he was able to play in 15 of 16 games. He’ll turn 32 next month and is listed at 350 pounds. The organization grew “weary” of his attitude and his “unwillingness to practice,” Cleveland general manager Tom Heckert told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

“Shaun’s a different cat,” Heckert said. “Shaun’s whole thing — and he’s stated a million times — is that he’s never been on a team that’s any good. Every team he’s ever been on has been bad. Right or wrong, I think it’s taken a toll on him.”

In 10 years with Detroit and Cleveland, the best season one of his teams has had is 7-9. Otherwise, it has been nine double-digit loss seasons and a career record of 45-115.

Rogers, who is still talented, would be better off with a strong contender. The Redskins would be better off with a different mindset.
