“Is there anyone in this room that doesn’t already have a Mercedes?” joked “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno as he drew two winning raffle tickets for brand-new Mercedes-Benz sedans on Saturday night at the Leukemia Ball. “Show ’em a Chevy; they don’t know what the hell that is in this room.”
He had reason to be skeptical: The $1,000-per-plate event at the Convention Center is Washington’s largest nonpolitical fundraiser each year, and is chock-a-block with executives and other corporate types.

During his nearly hourlong set, Leno returned over and over again to political material. Democrats, he said, have a “choice between a black man and a white woman. That is a choice that Michael Jackson makes every day.”
More Leno:
» “I had a nightmare. I went hunting with Dick Cheney and got driven home by Ted Kennedy.”
» “The president said in his radio address he had no plans to invade Iran. Now, he’s still going to invade Iran. He just has no plan. We’ll figure it out when we get there. Just like last time.”

The event, which also featured entertainment by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, raised $3.3 million.
