Anyone who runs with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, could use two things: a jolt of energy beforehand, and something to dull the pain afterward. Locally based celebrity chef José Andrés provided both when he was recently there for the annual festival of San Fermin.
Andrés, who’s an even bigger celebrity in his native Spain than he is here, created a special dessert for one of the event’s many parties. It was based on Kalimotxo, a blend of Coca-Cola and cheap red wine that is the primary fuel for revelers during the festival. His version was a sorbet of Kalimotxo, served in a half lemon and sprinkled with Pop Rocks.

So why didn’t he take a dash down the cobblestone streets while he was there?
“I would love to run with the bulls, but the truth is my wife would probably kill me!” he told Yeas & Nays (that is, if the bulls didn’t get him first). “Better to watch from the safety of a balcony while enjoying some great wine and pintxos! Next year!”
