Redskins report card: Week 16 win vs. Jaguars

Early trend The Redskins failed to convert on their first seven third-down opportunities, but on a second-half touchdown drive, QB Rex Grossman converted two third downs with passes, totaling 26 yards. Washington converted four of 15 for the game.

Under the radar

The Redskins’ defense won numerous one-on-one battles, preventing the Jaguars from running well. Third-year LB Rob Jackson, a converted end, showed strong hands when he rushed the passer. The ex-practice squad player finished with a sack and a forced fumble.

Did you notice?

On Kevin Barnes’ overtime interception, Jaguars RB Rashad Jennings blocked the wrong blitzer, as he did too often. He should have stayed inside to block LB Chris Wilson. Instead, Jennings went outside, and Wilson’s pressure led to the pick.

From the sidelines

» Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett compensated for injuries with an aggressive game plan, blitzing David Garrard into mistakes. Coach Mike Shanahan wisely opted to go for it on fourth-and-goal from the 1 in the fourth quarter.

» The Jaguars stayed committed to the run in the first half despite no success and despite the ability to throw the ball. Jack Del Rio’s team struggled to pick up blitzes and did not look like a playoff team.
