Podestas Modern Love goes public

Top Democratic lobbying couple Tony and Heather Podesta have a problem: They have so much contemporary art, they don’t have space for it all.

So, the nationally renowned collectors are loaning it out again. They’ve given more than 50 works to the National Museum of Women in the Arts for a new exhibit called “Modern Love.”

It’s old hat for the Podestas. Katie Wat, the museum’s contemporary art curator, explained that the pair has given almost 250 pieces in 10 years. “They are super-cool, and they know what they like,” she told Yeas & Nays. “They know what’s hot. They are so focused and have given such superlative artwork, which makes my job so easy.” Not only that, they also have style. “Every time I’ve seen Tony, he’s worn suspenders!” she told Yeas & Nays with a smile.

This time, the Podestas also created free audio tour recordings that can be accessed via cell phone while touring the exhibit. Not surprisingly, they “are much better than reading a label,” Wat said. “It’s not like me saying wah wah wah.”
