Redskins-Jets report

Impact player Quarterback Mark Sanchez looked bad for three quarters. But in the fourth quarter Sanchez avoided a sack and completed a third-down pass for a first down. Two plays later he fooled cornerback Josh Wilson with a pump fake for a 30-yard touchdown.

Under the radar

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis had a strong day in coverage against Jabar Gaffney, who was targeted only three times the entire game. Gaffney did not make a catch. It’s not as if Gaffney is a Pro Bowl receiver, but he has been a reliable target. It stifled the offense.

Did you notice …

Former first-round pick Aaron Maybin, a bust in Buffalo, got his team-leading sixth sack? Maybin took right tackle Jammal Brown upfield, then darted inside and hit quarterback Rex Grossman, who then fumbled. The Jets recovered, leading to a clinching touchdown.

From the sidelines

New York allowed a long scoring drive on the Redskins’ first series, but that was about it. Rex Ryan’s schemes eventually stymied the offense, causing confusion and panic in the pocket.

Kyle Shanahan and the offensive coaches had a terrific opening series. But thereafter the Redskins generated little and had four three-and-outs in the second half. It didn’t help that Grossman played poorly.
