The quarterback class contains too many players who would be good … if not for a particular flaw. So the Redskins should ignore this position and wait until next year. Why? That class is supposed to be much better.
It starts with Stanford’s Andrew Luck, but also includes USC’s Matt Barkley, Oklahoma’s Landry Jones and an intriguing one in Arkansas’ Tyler Wilson. It could be an excellent draft so why not wait, right?

“The biggest problem you have is, it’s hard to predict what juniors will come out,” former Redskins general manager Charley Casserly, now an NFL Network analyst, said. “And how will a player play in his senior year? It’s too unpredictable. Obviously, Andrew Luck is coming out [in 2012] but you’ll have to bet on being 1-15 or 0-16 to get him.”
In other words, don’t plan that way. Also, if a team had done that last year, anticipating that Jake Locker would be the guy to get, they would have been wrong.
And if coach Mike Shanahan wants a quarterback? NFL Network analyst, and former NFL general manager, Michael Lombardi, like many others, says one fits what he wants: Jake Locker.
“When you look at what his best skill set is, it’s to be on the perimeter and on the move,” Lombardi said. “I could see Cam [Newton] doing some of the things Mike likes, too. … When I look at them, I see someone Mike would like and someone Mike feels can be developed and build his offense around.”
