In less than a month, thousands of Washingtonians will migrate to Denver and — for a single week — become self-styled kings of that fair city. But while they’ll have parties thrown and drinks poured in their honor, they won’t have every advantage. Like local knowledge. With that in mind, some Denver insiders got together at the National Press Club Monday morning to reveal some city secrets.

“If you are at a restaurant in Denver and you have the choice between the red chili and the green chili, the answer is the green chili,” advised Jack Farrell of the Denver Post.
Other pearls of wisdom:
- In the high altitude, it’s important to drink water to stave off dehydration.
- The best place for shopping is the outdoor mall on 16th Street.
- Yes it is true, taxis cannot be hailed, they must be called ahead of time. Key phrase: Plan ahead.
- The neighborhood bars and restaurants can be just as good as the bars and restaurants in the fancy districts, but at half the price.
- Not interested in the city? Farrell suggests ,“Before you go, visit Rocky Mountain National Park. You can see the mountains of Denver.”
