The Redskins don’t need to draft a quarterback if they can do just one thing. So says NFL.com’s Gil Brandt, Dallas’ vice president of personnel from 1960 to 1989.
But here’s the rub: That one thing might be a tad difficult.

“You have to hope that Rex Grossman is the first-round pick that he was for Chicago, and he can play like he did for the Bears to get them to the Super Bowl,” Brandt said.
“I do think that Mike [Shanahan] can take a player like Grossman and, if he works hard enough, he could make him [good].”
Chances are many Redskins fans and personnel people around the league would disagree.
Still, Brandt said he would select Auburn’s Cam Newton or Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert if they fell to No. 10, where the Redskins pick in the first round. But Brandt said he wouldn’t be surprised if the Redskins traded that pick, acquired another high second-rounder and used that on a quarterback.
“A dark horse there is Colin Kaepernick,” Brandt said.
